Structured Heuristics Intensive Programme (SHIP)

A problem solving programme developed in house customised to cater to different progress groups with emphasis on Model Drawing.  The programme embeds the Polya process of problem solving such as understanding the problem, simplifying the task, identifying possible causes and identifying possible solutions. These are often used in combinations to solve the problem.

Students will become effective and confident in using heuristics to solve Math problems. Students will develop concepts, skills and the underlying processes of problem solving with emphasis on Model Drawing. Students will learn to use different heuristics for different purposes.

Maths Trails
The aim of the Mathematics Trail is to provide opportunities for students to apply mathematical skills such as estimation and mental calculation to solve real-life problems. This is an exciting alternative to class-based learning where learning is brought to the outdoors. The trails are usually conducted within the school compound, neighbourhood around the school or at various parks or places of interest such as the Changi Airport and the Botanic Gardens. Mathematics Trail provides a good opportunity for students to experience the relevance of Mathematics in real life.

Students will develop an appreciation and enjoyment of Mathematics in everyday situations.  Students will also be able to enjoy stimulating outdoor experience and opportunity to solve mathematical problems while interacting with fellow classmates along the trail.

Sustained Support for Mathematics
A MOE supported prgramme where Maths is taught based on the principles of creating early success in Maths. Teachers employ the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach in teaching Maths.  Through the use of fun and interesting activities, students learn to apply and connect concepts and skills learned to real-life situations.

Students will become confident and motivated in the learning of Maths. They will be grounded in basic concepts and have mastery of skills.

Math Blogs@MPS
Students learn Maths by using Wiki as a space and ICT tools to collaborate their learning and sharing with teachers and school mates within a safe and secure social ICT environment.

Students will be able to learn and be constructive collaborator in their learning of Maths through use and integration of ICT tools.

Math Olympiad
In our continual effort to develop Mathematical talents, Math Olympiad is an enrichment programme intended for students who have a strong interest in mathematics. The aim of the programme is to stimulate and develop students’ creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Students are equipped with critical thinking skills required for the rigour of taking part in various Maths competitions.
