About Malay Dance
MPS Malay Dance aims to instill resilience and teamwork in the student dancers, developing leadership skills and thus, be able to guide the juniors. It also aims to expose students to the Malay culture and thus, gaining deeper understanding of the culture.
Besides that, the CCA aims to provide an opportunity for students to pursue Performing Arts in secondary school through Direct School Admission (DSA). Over the years, there have been at least 7 successful applicants who continued to develop their talents and passion in schools such as Riverside Secondary School, Woodlands Ring Secondary School and Marsiling Secondary School.

Singapore Youth Festival (SYF)
MPS Malay Dance members participating in the SYF Arts Presentation will not only showcase their talents but also learn valuable lessons extending beyond dance. Through this experience, students cultivate resilience in rigorous preparation and confidence in presenting to a wider audience. The experience deepens their appreciation for Malay dance's cultural heritage.
Showcasing of talents and skills
MPS Malay Dance members not only have the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills during school events such as Annual Awards Day and Hari Raya concert but also gain invaluable experience and foster character growth through these performances. These experiences instill qualities such as discipline, teamwork, and perseverance as they work together to deliver outstanding performances. Additionally, representing the school for external performances, such as the National Day Dinner organized by Marsiling Community Club, provides them with exposure to diverse audiences and further hones their performance abilities, contributing to their overall personal and artistic development.
The 5 basic dance steps and props used in Malay dance
MPS Malay Dance members will learn the 5 basic traditional Malay dance moves – Asli, Inang, Masri, Joget and Zapin. Throughout the years, the MPS Malay dance has performed using the different props such as ‘tepak sireh’ and ‘tudung saji’.
